I received information regarding subscription concerts for the NYP season next year, and Argerich will play the Schumann Concerto with Dutoit conducting. I got curious and checked Andrys Basten's website where there's a link to Paul Geffen's Argerich discography:
http://www.andrys.com/adisc-pg.html#schumann

I was surprised that there're five recordings of the Schumann Concerto listed. Are they good? Does she play this often? At least, for a change, she's not playing Tchaikovsky 1, Prokofiev 3, Bartok 3 or Chopin 1. Or maybe I just haven't been around long enough to notice that she plays the Schumann Concerto. She seems to play Tchaikovsky 1 and Prokofiev 3 so often. In fact, this season she will play Prokofiev 3 with NYP, and I'll be hearing her (of course)

says...

Yes; the performance with Kord is probably the best of those I've heard (I've not heard her performance with Celibidache).

A couple of years ago she was scheduled to perform Ginastera's Piano Concerto No. 1 in New York. On the day I went to buy my tickets, it was announced that she would be playing the Tchaikovsky No. 1 instead. What a letdown...

news.ops.worldnet.att.net:

About thirty years ago, I was looking forward to seeing André Watts play the Rachmaninoff PC #1 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Unfortunately, that got changed to Tchaikovsky as well.

Paul didn't want to keep it anymore so I inherited it and a couple of us try to keep it up to date but I'm not good at updating the site. The photo used for it was taken by a friend at her solo-return concert in May 2002.

However, I do link to a Japanese site which has very hard to get recordings by her not exactly ever put out in the western world.

As with Simon, I prefer the version with Kord and I wrote a user-review at Amazon about this CD at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/ B00004W1MW

The Harnoncourt is an interesting listen if you turn the sound way up. But this is more the way she plays it when inspired. There's a bonus of a rather chaotic live Tchaikovsky with Kord also on the disc.

I've heard his. It's unbelievably 'straight' and for some reason almost plodding. Ginastera asked for rubato on this one.
