Which performance of Mahler's Adagio from Symphony No. 10 (leaving 'completions', 'conjectures' and so-called 'realisations' to one side) does everyone rate highest?
I like Bernstein's live Vienna version on DG (the orchestral 'sigh' after the famous outburst of brazen dissonance is particularly memorable) but the recording is fairly poor.

I like Bernstein too, but my favorite is the Szell. While I didn't care much for his 4th and 6th, his 10th really works. You should look for this on the Japanese Sony version, which sounds much finer and is coupled with some other great works.

I don't think Matthew Best has recorded this. Bruckner masses, yes.

The best performance I ever heard, believe it or not, was a sensational live broadcast with Maazel. I'm not sure what orchestra it was. (I'm not normally a big fan of Mr. Maazel's.) The two recordings in my collection are Kubelik's (from the big box) and Boulez's (with the LSO). Can't remember my impression of the Kubelik. The Boulez is good but hardly the second coming.

I don't care much for Szell's 4th or 6th either

Mine is his CBS version, but that was my imprint.

I'll second any votes for Scherchen (Leipzig Radio) and Szell ('Locked in the Vault' has reissued the Purgatorio, if anyone needs it on CD). And though Boulez isn't the Second Coming, he isn't chopped liver, either.
We shouldn't overlook Sanderling/Berlin SO
