I feel obligated to point out that Estonia is one of the Baltic countries. While it was unwillingly part of the USSR, it has been independent of Russia for over 10 years. In any case, it could never be properly referred to as Russian.

Joe, What kind of finish did you get? I once had a car with a polyurethane(?) coating and it turned white and flaky from the sun. Maybe you could find out how much it would cost to have someone come in and refinish the rim then take the quote to the dealer.

It is a PE finish. There is no way I'd go through the trouble of refinishing the piano. I tried to spare the dealer from this problem the second time- as they rose to the occasion the first time. But, alas since Dr. Laul ignored my plea to him personally, I have to go through the dealer again. The worst part about it is that I enjoy the feel and sound of this particular piano- and have invested money in getting it voiced and regulated. Now, I'll have to start all over

Hi Joe, I'm worried about the crown and you're worried about the looks. My mom said it was not like I would ever be a concert pianist so I should quit worrying and just enjoy the piano. In that light, it seems less important. It took me awhile just to find a piano I liked that sounded good and not all of the Estonias had the same sound. So at least you're happy with the sound.

Joe, It takes time and effort but if you truly enjoy this piano, refinish it. I refinished an upright and currently I am working on turning an old piano case into a music workstation. If you do it yourself you can be assured that you will use the right materials and that you will not have to touch it again for decades....

Here is a link to a picture of the piano I refinished, maybe it can provide some inspiration:

I appreciate your attempt at motivation and inspiration Knute, but the thought of refinishing a 4 month old piano just kills me!!

You have to ask yourself is the prize worth the price? You have a piano that you clearly enjoy as far as sound, etc. It is painful to look at, and as we all can agree looks are important. You can spend your time arguing with Estonia reps and perhaps even getting your money back and then having to search and find another piano and have shipped to your house and then have it regulated, etc. etc.

Do you see what I am getting at here? I realize that it's only a few months old, obviously the quality control at Estonia is not very good, or the finish that they are using is inferior or a bad batch. All I can say is that if it was my piano it would be in the garage by now getting stripped and refinished.
