I never see any mention of the Charles Walter Pianos. Do they have any sort of reputation for quality?

Walter has an exceptional reputation for high quality, and arguably ranks among the finest verticals being built today. Their grand got off to a slightly bumpy start during the first year, something to be expected from a completely new product offering, but soon settled in and is now considered to be a very fine piano, fully capable of competing with some pretty lofty marques.

To be fair, I am a Walter dealer. But I don't think anyone here would wander too far from my assessment.

Excellent quality. They are not that well known because it is a small company and they don't spend a load on marketing and advertizing. But they are great builders.

They have a very good reputation for quality. I believe that they are somewhat uneven leaving the factory in terms of touch and tone, but they can be very nice with good prep work.

I have never seen a Schulze-Pollmann so I really cannot comment on those. The other piano I have liked in your price range was the Petrof (which is probably about $1k more). I prefer the Walter or Petrof over any Asian piano, the only uprights (which I tried) that I liked better were the Mason & Hamlin and some Steinways.

Very good quality. I would choose them over any of the Asain brands. I am a Walter dealer as well.
