Mr. Meyers, have you tried Schaeffer's or the Piano Shop? They both were selling Walters at one point. As everyone here already knows, I worked for the Piano Shop in Silver Spring and Virginia for a year in 1995. We sold Charles Walter pianos. That was my best selling piano, by the way. I preferred the model 1500 upright. It was sturdy and serious. I worked there when the first Walter grands were released. I really, really, really liked that piano. It was a lean and mean piano. I played Bach and Brahms on it. It sounded and felt good. Oddly enough, I have never played on a recent M&H. How do they compare?

I can't speak for the Walter grand, not having played one, but the Masaon and Hamlin is a great piano. If you like the American piano sound (as opposed to the European) you will love the Mason and Hamlin. I liked it at as much as the Steinway but I could not affore either at the time and ended up buying a 2 year old Yamaha.

In the under 6 foot range, I find the M&H noticeably superior to the Steinway. In fact, it is the only serious piano that I have come across in this size range.

I absolutely agree. Only two times have I played a piano under 6 foot that blew me away. One was the Steinway M that was in Faust Harrison pianos this past December, and the other was the Mason A that was next to it. I just scratch my head when I play the 5' 8' Mason. (Actually, I can't scratch it while I am playing!) I just can't figure out how they do this piano in such a small package. Amazing! Damion Bertram, pianist, conductor
