I read a good review of a new disc by Aldo Ciccolini on Cascavelle) containing Schumann's Carnaval de Vienne, Waldszenen, and the Sonata Opus 14. I am interested in it primarily for the Sonata as I do not have a recording that I really like (including Horowitz', and cannot imagine that Ciccolini could displace Richter (in either) or Michelangeli (in Carnaval...) but would welcome being proven wrong.

Has anyone heard this CD and, if so, would you comment on the performances

Near as I can determine, the Op. 14 sonata just isn't really likable; at best it's interesting. Volker Banfield's version (cpo) is interesting. As for the other works, I 'cannot imagine' either.
