Why not take what he said at face value?

Not at all. Several notable jazz pianists studied with Nadia

What a stupidly thick thing to say. Obviously your definition of Jazz precludes Late Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Steve Coleman, Andrew Hill, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, Mathew Shipp,Evan Parker, Paul Bley, Ornette Coleman, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Pharoah Sanders etc.

You must be living on another planet. Many jazz musicians are/were classically trained, and conversely many classical composers were influenced by jazz music in the 20th century. Where do you get your facts? CBS?

Such as 4'33'? What is the key of it?

Atonality was invented and patented by Boring van Beethoven. Just listen to any of the late quartets, the JackHammerKlavier, or the Grossest Fugu.

Sighs.....I KNEW it. It's like being in an Irish pub late on Friday night....you KNOW there is a going to be a fight but you're not quite sure who it is going to be between. When I read those two posts I thought: 'It's like being in 'The Lantern' at Clonakilty just after midnight' and I suspect I was absolutely right.

Seconds out!

Kind regards, Alan M. Watkins

I'd say that roughly the same proportion of jazz is atonal ( late coltrane, coleman etc) as classical. I wouldn't call it crap just because its not your bag, maaan.

As well it should. I don't know if DK intended to exclude your roster of musicians from the jazz universe, but I don't listen to any of them except Lacy (only for the reason he addresses Monk's music) and if they stopped releasing their music I wouldn't shed a tear. There are plenty of fine examples but I will nominate 'Something Else' featuring Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis as one of the greatest musical events of the 20th century.

There's a new version coming out every quarter.

We have by now v1.0 the Hammerdreck, v2.0 the Jackhammerklavier and v3.0 the Sledgehammerklavier.
