I've got some CD cases that have some goo from stickers and the like. I've tried cleaning with a couple solvents, but they 'etched' or made cloudy the CD case itself as well as removing the good. Anyone know what works well?

Scotch tape applied and re-applied gradually gets the goop off.

There's a product called 'Goo-Gone,' which you can get in hardware stores and many other places (big groceries, mega-marts). It's made exactly for the purpose you describe (it also gets the residue of old stickers off windshields, and so on), and it works great.

I tried something called 'Oops' which was supposed to clean the same stuff, and it badly marred the plastic. I'll try that one instead.

Believe it or not, peanut butter works nicely. As long as the goo is still sticky, rub some peanut butter on it with a paper towel. I have been doing this for years and it causes no damage at all to the case.

Does anyone know if this works on lp album jackets? I've found a few performances and invariably there's a 'stuck' sticker on the jacket. I'd like to remove the sticker and clean the residue without doing any more damage than the sticker has done. Thoughts?

I second the nomination of Goo-Gone for use on plastic, but I wouldn't use it on paper without testing it on something expendable. I have generally used lighter fluid for removing stickers from paper, but care is required. Allen Tyler

If peanut butter works, I don't see why marmite shouldn't.

WD-40 on a paper towel works, without etching the plastic.

Why don't you just buy some new CD cases and insert the CD's into the clean cases? If you're concerned about the paper insert facing the rear of the case, it really takes very little effort to disassemble a CD case, take the insert out, and place it in a fresh case. I've done it numerous times without damaging the jewel case.
