Dear all, Having attended Alicia de Larrocha's farewell recital in Tokoy this May, I found this great artist still in top form, and very regret that she would not performs any more....... It is a rumor that Decca has some her recordings in their archives, never been released, which including some items like Chopin's 4 Impromptus, 3rd Ballade, and Polonises, etc., as well as A Schubert recital(set of Impromptus), and also, Mozart's Piano concerti nos.24 & 26, with Sir Georg Solti and Chamber Orchestra of Europe, all date from 1980s. I do not have any hopes that Decca will release those recordings later, alas. But yet, happily, RCA will release two latest recordings by Alicia, Granados's Bocetos, Cuentos de la Juventud, Escenas romanticas, etc.(The frist two works she's never recorded before!), and Schubert's Sonatas D.664 &D.960, I can not wait !!!!

Decca would have to KNOW what is in their cupboard and I have little hope of that.

As for RCA. Great news!

But you know, each artist has a right to retire. She has worn two, repeat, two hearing aids for many years. I don't really know how she has managed so well so long.

But she deserves a rest. She has a marvelous family in Barcelona, several sisters, who look exactly like her, and a beautiful daughter and son, both VERY tall,, curiously enough. I'll bet they will be glad to have mummy home for a change.

It's not uncommon for record companies to open their vaults after an artist dies. RCA did it with Horowitz and Heifetz. It would be great to hear those Decca items. Her Mozart PC#25 with Solti is my favorite recording of that work. Her Schubert D960 for Decca was excellent for the 2 last movements - not as successful in the first 2.

Thanks for that suggestion, John. Do you have one for PC#22?

Hmmm - that I wouldn't be qualified to say - #25 is pretty much my favorite Mozart PC, so I have sought out many recorded versions. DeLarrocha did #22 for Decca, and it's good (I tend to feel that her RCA versions are too controlled and mellow).
