Mozart was a composer who died too late.

I have his piano sonatas on oddessy. An excercise in obnoxiousness. Why did Columbia let him do it?

A more perceptive comment on Mozart by one of my friends after hearing the Mozart 28th Symphony. 'When I hear the Mozart 28 I lose my sense of gravity'

I agree that Glenn Gould's Mozart sonatas are a joke, but I remember liking the way he played the intense sturm und drang uprising in the slow movement of the A minor.

I read once that he did indeed say that. It's the single most jealous remark in all of music, with which I am familiar.

They thought something that perverted would sell because it was made by one of their big stars?

And of the Gould Mozart Sonata performances, I recall one critic saying they sounded like they had been played by a woodpecker high on cocaine!

That's part of it. But he (Gould) was also a prankster and joker, not someone whose every utterance should be taken seriously and at face value.
