A couple of clicks here and there isn't a problem but having an album 'afflicted by a goodly number of major clicks' questions whether or not this is worth 'cleaning' at all. Yes, it zaps a lot of time to fix it. Especially with scratches that causes skipping.
It's important to provide a good quality source. There's only so much that can be done with excessive clicking and scratches.
Most clicking can be eliminated by a physically-clean album, static reduction or elimination and a good cartridge.
On the other hand, submitting pristine condition albums result in excellent CD transfers.
