Only 5 hours left to snap this up:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& item=2541274501&categor...

I have no connection with the seller, except that the seller is me.

I actually like the performance, Bob Lombard, but I culled it because of too many versions of the piece.

I saw this CD in cutout bins within a month of its release and it reappears constantly on eBay with no takers. Don't ask me why. Must be the cover photo.

Great! Now you know you need a shrink!

And quite frankly, it is not distinctive enough to warrant retention. In my opinion, Richter, Pletnev, Afanassiev and Mustonen provide complete coverage of the spectrum

Yeah, I ought to thin out my 'Pictires' collection too, but it ain't easy. There are even more than four 'right' ways to play it. Including Vlad's.

You may be right. If true, the market failure of this disc does not augur well for Kissin's future on RCA. I'm not a big fan of his, but this really is in many ways an impressive CD.

I agree with you about Richter and Pletnev, and would add Ovchinikov to the short list. I don't know the others you mention, and I also agree that the Great Gate is just too slow in Kissin's performance.

I was referring to Ugorsky, however that is true of Kissin's performance as well. I would advise you to hear Mustonen even if just once since it is utterly original and not at all in the Richter and standard Russian tradition.

Does anyone besides me feel that the piece is really not all that great a work and doesn't really beg for serious 'interpretation?' Clever little tunes strung together with a big bombastic finish. Applause applause.

No offense meant to anyone who feels otherwise, of course.
