I recently transferred from reels a performance of the Bartok Violin Concerto No. 2 with Edith Peinemann, William Steinberg and the NYP, this from a broadcast on May 16, 1965. I was stunned by the very measured, yet intense performance of this piece, at first finding it offputting, then after several listenings absolutely entranced by it. I do not know Peinemann's work or reputation well and am motivated to investigate further. I know she recorded a Strauss CD with Szell but do not know much more than that about her career. If there is anyone out there with other airchecks of this most interesting performer, please do contact me. I am open to any trade.
I am also searching for a particular Kubelik performance of the Bruckner 8, this with Cleveland, April 19/21 1973. Any help on that front would be appreciated too.
Best,
Tom Heilman

She recorded the Dvorak Violin Concerto for DG with Maag conducting the Czech Philharmonic. That used to be considered one of the top recorded performances of the work. If I remember correctly, it was coupled with Ravel's Tzigane. It is many years since I have heard it, I no longer own a copy, and I have no idea if has been issued on CD.

Indeed it has, on a budget DG CD, coupled with Kubelik's recording of the Dvorak String Serenade with the ECO. This CD shows up at BRO from time to time.

Try 1966. I recall the LP well, with a tight-lipped cover portrait of the soloist posing with her violin. This fine performance (my 'imprint' for the work) was also on DGG 445 037-2, with Kubelik's 1969 recording of the Dvorak String Serenade with the English Chamber Orchestra. A splendid disc.
