Anyone care to comment on the merits of this performance? Is it 'live' or not? My favorite studio recording is Bohm/DG along w/ the excerpts of Reiner. I have three 'live' performances w/Mitrpoulos. The price (2 discs for 1) was very attractive and knew ir wouldn't be an expensive 'gamble', but disisted anyway as I have with Sinopoli/DG. The singers are of course important, but there are orchestral sections which I always compare to Reiner's. I'd be interested in a full recording that highlights the orchestra the way Reiner does. I _still_ haven't heard Solti's on cd. I saw an old video of it with Nillson and I'm just not enamored by her voice in certain roles. A fantasy Elektra would be by Callas IMO.

Do you mean the one used to be on Philips, not DG? With Behrens? Has some excitement but since you have Boehm and Reiner I am not sure you need it.

I think it was assembled from several live performances. Why not get Varnay on Gala instead, even if it is in mono

This is an outstanding performance of Elektra. It is a live recording. This and Ozawa's Mahler 9th are probably the best work he did with the BSO, IMO.
Well worth acquiring!
