What would you call it? 'gospel' or 'spiritual'?
What are his influences, would you say?
Thanks

I saw Leon Russell live at the Filmore East in 1969. He was awesome.

On what do you base the statement that Elton John was influenced by Leon Russell? I'm not disagreeing, I'm just wondering.

I don't know about the other guy, but one time Leon, Elton, and I were sitting around at Trader Vic's, eating oysters and drinking a very nice merlot when Elton leaned over, cut a huge fart, then turned to Leon and said 'Leon, you've been a bad influence on me'.

Please explain for us, exactly, what his 'proclivity' has to do with his piano playing style. But since you've classified his piano playing style as 'gay', perhaps you would care to enlighten us as to what constitutes 'gay' piano playing. Curious minds and all that....
And I really don't disagree with the annoying and monotonous parts, having never been a big fan of his rather bombastic escapades. Leon Russell, on the other hand, was a much more interesting musician, both technically as a player and as an innovative songwriter.
Kindest regards,

That would describe his most recent effort on Broadway called 'Aida'. As someone who is, in fact, gay, annoying and monotonous, I have to say that I dislike most of his music. He sure does know how to bang on a piano, though.
