Has any performed on a Gigasampler driven controller with piano sounds against other live musicians - piano/winds/or strings?

There obviously is a latency factor (the time it takes to process the keyboard input and output a sound), and some indication is that if the latency is below 10 milleseconds, it is acceptable for live performance.

I am wondering if anyone on this group has had any live performance experiences to comment about. I'm thinking of trying to pair up 2 players on a real piano against a controller given one, and wonder about such items as trills and tremolos, grace notes, etc. that so often grace orchestral transcriptions.

You might try asking this question on the NorthernSounds Gigasampler BBS:
http://www.northernsounds.com/

The 'Sample Libraries Discussion' section is the most active and I'd suggest posting there.

I haven't used Gigasampler with a live group, but have played a lot of 'music minus one' with a sequenced midi accompaniment and have not noticed latency being a problem. There has been some discussion on Northernsounds about latency - it seems to be a complex mix of midi interface, computer speed, etc. - but with a simple system like mine where the computer is essentially dedicated to Giga I doubt you'd have a problem.

John, I play the gigasampler piano all the time now. I have a fast PC and when I am playing the gigapiano, that is all that is running. Do you own Gigasampler? If you do there is a good booklet describing how to optimize your PC for gigasampler.

I have noticed a very small amount of latency when I play, but only very slight. The response and depth of sound make this instrument a dream to play.

RSPE in Los Angeles build dedicated, rackmount Gigastudio systems. They come in both a 2' and a 1' rack, as far as I recall - and Dave at RSPE claims a latency below 3mS, which is about as good, as any hardware keyboard.
