Two questions:

-Has anyone compared the older transfers (RCA 'Heifetz Edition' and the newer ones in the 'Rubinstein Collection'?

-I only know the Schubert/Beethoven Trios so far, which I find wonderful in spite of the limited sound. Should I get their Brahms op.8 as well? (I like the work, but no as much as the other ones and I am not sure if their lean and fast approach will be so convincing)

And another one: is there a better trandfer (or maybe planned for Naxos historical?) of the Mozart divertimento K 563 with Heifetz/Feuermann/Primrose than the rather atrocious one from the Heifetz collection?

thanks for any comments

caused the following letters to be typed in

I recall you asked this back in December, but I see that nobody directly addressed your specific question, as is so typical of Usenet. I bought the Rubinstein Collection to replace an even earlier transfer, 09026-60926-2, than which it is far superior. But I'm afraid I can't speak to a comparison with the one from the Heifetz Edition.

Buy it, by all means. At the very least, every last bit of Feuermann is treasurable.

I'm perfectly satisfied with the one on Biddulph LAB 074, but this might not be so easy to find any more. (It's not currently at Berkshire.)

I have multiple copies of Heifetz and Rubinstein on RCA LP's, originals and reissue collections, including a gatefold reissue double LP of Beethoven concerto's of both Heifetz and Rubinstein, and all of them are excellent. I can't hear the difference. Over the years I've rebought a number of Heifetz CD's and they match very well to all the LP's. Same performance. Less surface noise but they do sound digital.
