I used to won a BASF LP of the Schumann concerto for 4 horns. Also on the recording were pieces by Weber and Schoeck. Hermann Baumann was the soloist (among others in the Schumann) and the Vienna Symphony was conducted by someone named Bernet. The catalogue number *may* be BMH 20834-6.
I remember really loving the performance - especially the Schumann. Does anyone know if this recording is available anywhere?
Thanks

It remains my favorite recording of the Konzertstuck. However, AFAIK, it has never been issued on CD. If you're looking for another copy, try and find the original German BASF issue, which had much quieter surfaces than the U.S. issue.
Baumann did a remake that was briefly available on Arte Nova, but it pales in comparison with the tour de force performance on the BASF.

Thanks, Eric!
Yes, it is/was quite a performance. You know, it occurred to me that there were 5 players named as horn soloists. Do you know if Baumann created a performing version with 5 horns??
Do you (or anyone reading this) have any idea where I might start looking for the original German BASF issue?
Thanks
Stephen

Thanks again. In fact, I ordered the LP from arsantiqua.com.
Take care.
