Does anyone know the identity of these 'Columbia SO' players (c. 1973?). Who was the concertmaster?
I see that other ensembles are now using this name, viz. the orchestras in Portland, Ore. and Ellicott City, MD.

The New York Times quotation on the cover seems to indicate a NY performance by a pick-up group in a church. Possibly the horns are from the NYPO, but there is such a vast pool of musicians in that area that your search will be difficult. Nice performance, though.
The Columbia Symphony pseudonym was used for the LA Philharmonic, Toronto, Cleveland, and various pick-up ensembles for contractual reasons.

Thanks, I was just trying to take advantage of the concentration of expertise on this subject which we have here at the moment......
Btw., was this the last appearance (on CBS) of this pseudonymous ensemble? The Stravinsky/Stravinsky and Schoenberg/Craft recordings were made at least 5 years previously.
Thanks,

I was just thinking that you might want to contact Bill Kuyper of the NYPO. He has been in the orchestra for over thirty years, and may know which of his colleagues played that gig.
He is the only horn that goes back that far. Phil Myers and Howard Wall only go back to the eighties, I believe.
