I read an article about 15-year-old musical prodigy 'L'il Bow Wow' in last Sunday's NY Times Magazine. (You can see it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/30/magazine/ 30LILBOWWOW.html ).

This is the most cogent point in your post. Until this performer distinguishes himself in some way from the multitude of others in his chosen genre, who cares?

To illustrate, does anyone remember a stand-out acrobat who performed on the Ed Sullivan or Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts programs? Probably not, but you *do* remember seeing a lot of acrobatic acts in these venues, right? They were, and should have been, just happy to be seen there.

I searched the Times article and couldn't find the word 'prodigy' in it.

I certainly hope *you* know the difference between a virtuoso pianist and a rapper.

credibility?

I don't think they do. I think they just print what people like to read about. I think there's about as much similarity between a rapper and a virtuoso pianist as there is between Adam Sandler and Richard Burton. (I think Adam Sandler is pretty funny, BTW.)

LOL. Surely you are trying to amuse us.

Not me.
