I am desperately looking for good feedback on Palatino verticals. I'm trying to decide between a Palatino PUP-123T (at about $3000) v. a Yamaha T118 (at about $4000) both with delivery, benches, and a free tuning. I like the warmer tone of the Palatino over the brighter tone of the Yamaha, but I don't know if a Palatino will hold up as well over time as Yamahas are known to do. I'm really conflicted since the Palatino is such a new piano on the market and there's not a lot of information out there. The Yamaha dealer told me the Palatino's action will become problematic over 5 years. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Are you buying this instrument for yourself or for someone to learn on? I've not heard anything to do with Palatino pianos - and I guess I would choose Yamaha based on the reputation of the company.
If you can find yourself a good tuner to have a look at the piano, perhaps to give better, unbiased insight into why the action will become 'problematic', then this could help you in your decision-making.
All the best.

Thank you for your reply. The piano is for my young children to learn on and for myself (I played all growing up and would like to start playing again). On another note (no pun intended) could you tell me if you think its worth coughing up the extra money for a new Yamaha U1 over a new Yamaha T118? Is there a real difference between the Japanese made U1 over the Chinese made T118?

Hey there Robyn,
There are a few posts about the T118 and the U1 pianos. I'm not familiar with the T118 but we do have a U1 at the school I work at. It seems a lovely piano to play on and I enjoy it when I get a chance to sit at it.
Depending on the extra cost, play both of them and see what you think - particularly of the feel and the action. Also, ask the opinion of your piano teacher.
Sorry I can't give a full response, but I must say that the U1 is a nice instrument.
All the best.
