If it's an upright the top usually flips up. You'll tell if it can by hinges on the top near the middle.

If so then you'll have access to the top of the soundboard and you'll see the maker, dates of register and patent.

If you can't flip the top, then the bit that moves in the front flips up and you can see the soundboard. Lift the front panel up all the way, they usually unhinge so lifting it should be alright. At the top of the soundboard, above the strings, etc, you'll see the maker, reg'd and pat'd dates. If you can flip the top open it's easier than the front panel that you see as you're playing.

If it's a grand then you'll see it when the case is open on the soundboard, you can't miss it.

Let us know if you find it, we like getting feedback so we know that things are alright, as well as validation for the help provided. Also, if it doesn't get you results, then other options can be given instead.

Thank you very much, and best wishes,

~B~

Hi again. The best advice is to have a good look over the instrument, and then contact a piano tuner who can give you a better idea.

Trust this helps.

The brand wouldn't be on the back, it's normally on the fall board (the front of the keyboard lid when you open it).

It could be that, over time, it's been painted over. Next time you get your piano tuned, ask your tuner and he may be able to locate it somewhere in the body of the instrument.
