I have a Steinway upright piano made in 1893. It is in excellent condition with a cast iron sound board. When refinished in the 60's my father said he'd been offered $125,000 for this piano. Apparently it was custom made for a performing artist who needed an upright concert piano for practice in a small New York apartment. My great grandmother, who played in the Toronto Symphony purchased it from the artist and it has been in my family since. Contact with Steinway has been unproductive. It still has beautiful tone and is a work of art. In the traditional rosewood, it weighs some 700 pounds. Could I ever get that kind of money for it? If so, how?

Hi Guest,

Do you live in the U.S or Canada? You mentioned both Toronto and New York.

I have a few ideas, though they might not be as helpful as you would like.

Is there an option for auction. If it's that fantastic an instrument then there will be people looking to buy it for certain. Getting in touch with an auction house, or looking them up online would be a good start.

There are many different piano enthusiast magazines, I was surprised to find.

Here are some links for you to look at. www.piano-education.org/piano-magazines.html www.pianistmagazine.com

Only you can truly find what suits you and your unique situation the best, so I offer my best wishes in your quest.
