I know what temper is and that there are many old tempers but I am talking here about EQUAL temper like modern electronic keyboards are tuned to. So why does my tuner do all that temper and stretching stuff - why just not bring a cheap electric keyboard with him and tune each note directly to that; he should still hear the unison beats for accuracy?
Thanks

There are several old tempers right here on this newsgroup, you know. I don't know how equal they are though.
I couldn't tell you why he's getting mad at you, but I'd guess he's doing all that stretching because tuning pianos can cause you to get a bit stiff in the joints. Of course, if he'd just stay *out* of those joints, maybe he'd quit coming home stiff.....

Before I tackle this, please explain what you know about 'what temper is'
Gerry It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.

Pete, I think I've read the musings of a kindred spirit. Since I can't bite my tongue to avoid replying to some posts in this ng, my only recourse has been to bite my keyboard (my 'space bar' now feels like a Braille training device).
Have you, by any chance, heard of pianist Chico Marx's brother Groucho?
Respectfully, Trey Behan
