Hi there,

My question is simple. Is there a way to buy Japanese classical CD on line? Thank you!

There is also Deodeo.com; I've had excellent service from them. You must know the exact CD catalog number to use their 'English' search engine; or read Japanese.

You can do a Google search on Deodeo or on my name (in 2002); I asked the same question and received excellent advice on how to proceed.

If only there were some Web resource which listed, in some language using Western Roman orthography, Japanese classical CD releases and their exact catalog numbers. Might this not even be worth a small subscription fee?

I purchased exactly one CD from amazon.co.jp. By the time it arrived at my door, it had cost me $37, making it the most expensive CD I've ever bought. Most of that was air mail.

Sorry I can't be of much help for your request, but I thought you and others might be interested in hearing about a Japanese pianist who has just made her first CD in the states. Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, a friend of mine, just released privately a beautiful disc entitled 'From Afar' of Japanese composers' works for piano, including:

Michio Mamiya - Three Preludes ('Children in the Sunset,' 'The Day of Deer Dance,' and 'Lullaby of Hikage Dori'

Masao Homma - Cross Mode for Piano

Akira Miyoshi - En Vers

Toru Takemitsu - Uninterrupted Rests

Toru Takemitsu - Litany

Anyone interested in acquiring this disc should write to Yumiko

in particular, of Homma's Cross Mode.

regards,

Ed

Do you mean EMS? The cheaper shipping, which the may call air mail, but I'm not sure, costs 900 yen for one CD, 300 yen each additional. Takes about two weeks. EMS costs 2400 yen for one CD I believe, and it takes about 2 days.
