Haenssler Classics has released a CD of the Bruckner Symphony # 7 with Eugen Jochum conducting the VPO (Haenssler CD 93.043). This is the same performance as that released on Lys/Dante # 007/008 (with the Hamburg B4). The timings on both releases are virtually identical and they were both derived fron Telefunken 78 rpm discs.

The Haenssler gives the recording dates as 10-11/04/39. The sound on the Haenssler release is marginally better than on the LYS CD set.

Hmm... The Tahra reissue of Jochum's 1930s/40s Bruckner 3, 4, 5, and 7 give the date of the 7th as May 8-9, 1939. I thought this was the same recording as the Lys.

I'm 95% sure that these are all the same. There is just some confusion (intentional or otherwise) about the dates.

It is. Jochum made only one recording of the 7th with the VPO in the 30s. Tahra and Lys are notorious for providing wrong dates.

This strikes me as a far more valid reason to be displeased with the French than some others mentioned lately.
