On March 3, Naxos released, in their historical line, the 1951 Karajan Meistersinger, recorded in July and August at the Festspielhaus, Walter Legge producer. But nowhere on the CD packaging does it indicate that this is licensed from EMI.

Is this the same as the EMI/Angel issues on LP and CD in the past (last CD issue, 1990). The recording dates and, of course, Legge would seem to indicate as much. Unless this is some alternate version.

If I remember correctly, Urania claims to have access to the original tapes. It says so somewhere on the cover art of the CD.

Naxos admits to remastering it off old LPs.

I have no idea what Myto used.

I'd love it if EMI brought out the old CD edition.

But who knows what will happen?
