I'm going to start piano lessons and am 59 yrs old. I'm going to purchase the Panasonic SX-KC611 which has a floppy disk, or the Yamaha DGX202 which has Flash ROM. Which is better for me and why? IS having a floppy drive important, and better than Flash-Rom? Thanks.

Bells and whistles won't help you play paino. If anything, they will distract you. If you want to take PIANO lessons, have you considered getting a PIANO?

the only difference is the technology used (and the price u pay), and are the floppies used in pianos as unreliable as the ones used for pc??
i think it is better to spend the money on a good piano if u're interested in learning it yourself, unless u want look at/listen to the piano most of the time...

The floppies that you use in my 600 are the same floppies you use for PC but the file format isn't anything I could find...so I ended up having the keyboard play into FInale or Cakewalk (both work) to get the files into a midi format I could use.
For me it's largely money, I would love a piano but I have a very small apartment and the 600 listed at $369 but my dealer sold me the first for $329 amd the second for $319.
And, using a cable from my keyboard to my sound card, I can use piano tutors such as Voyetra's Piano Tutor.
Ideally I would love both. Then I could play the piano where one was available and cart my keyboard to set up and play where one wasn't....but I would be satisfied to reach the level where I can do little performances for the children's home where my wfe works and some of the nursing homes around here. BAck when I was a professional clown I used to do shows in the off season in those places, and found it extremely rewarding.

Both of them are Panasonic SX-KC600 I believe the model is being replaced by the SX-KC611....which, I believe you were considering.
I like them. I was specifically looking for one with a floppy drive. The little church where my wife grew up is small, about 15 people on Sunday, all over 70, and none of them can play an instrument. I looked into a Midi box for them ($1000 plus disks) and began exploring midi online. Basically, I made a bunch of midis of songs in their song books and took the disk to the dealer. They had another nice keyboard with more keys, but it wouldn't play type 1 midis. The one I got did

I tried one other, as mentioned, in my price range (plus an earlier one that was a basic just keyboard I payed a hundred bucks for in an after xmas sale.).
To my ear it sounds like a piano....but, understand, I need to play music cranked up ... probably from full-blast headphones in the 70s.
You're going to have to listen for yourself.
The only real complaint I have is because of the nerve damage in my hands, I don't get much volumne from the touch sensitive keys so I have to run it through an amplifier (a karoake box works).
But, again, ultimately, you're going to have to go to a music store and try out all the instruments in your price range. I had specific needs and researched what would fulfill those needs...my interests are more in composing and writing than playing....and I switch back and forth between my keyboards and my guitars so as not to get stuck in a rut. I often compose the melody first on my keyboard, then play it on my guitar to look for chords that play well with the melody notes, going back and forth until I like the way the tune sounds on both instruments. (I compose for a select group of religious people who believe in using the Hebrew Names for
