Hi all. I just got a used Yahmaha psr-400 keyboard. This thing has a midi hookup on the back. I was wondering what it would take to use the midi with my computer. I want to do this ON THE CHEAP. Do I need some kind a new soundcard or can I use the onbaord sound on my motherboard? ie can i hook it up to a com port? Thanks for any advice!

Cool, thanks for the help! My motherboard has 5.1 onbaord sound and a gameport but i don't know if that will work. I've also got an old soundcard in a box that i might be able to rig up I guess. Time to go buy a midi cable

Lots of sites with DIY (do it yourself) midi interfaces. Easy to build if you're handy. You also have to change the midi sound device in 'preferences to the 'MPU401 device' instead of your sound cards default midi synthesizer selection.

^^^^^ It's best to go out for Korean food _after_ your MIDI session, and take care not to spill anything on the instruments and equipment.
