For 'the soloists in the performances of the 9th' please read 'the soloists in the performances of the 8th.'

I wonder if that's quite what Mahler had in mind ...

Is that from the Prom of that year or a studio performance? I used to put the Boulez prom alongside the Berstein 6 for an interesting speed comparison!

Me too. Many interests are desirous of increased public stupefaction, but Mahler?

You haven't mentioned the 2 CD Arkadia CDGE754.2 set which contains Mahler 9 recorded on 6th June 1971 (no audience noise but there is what appears to be radio interference noise for about 1 minute in the middle of the last movement which is split over 2 sides with a few moments missing at the turn over) and Mahler 5th recorded from the prom concert of 28th August 1968. Is the latter the performance you mention as being on a Nuova Era cd?

None of the performances listed is a studio performance. They're all 'live.'

Yes, I have, but I can see that I've screwed up the listing . . . which is what always happens when I type such a list during a bout of insomnia very late at night. The Arkadia Mahler 9th I listed is indeed the one you describe. I listed the date as 1968 in error, having copied down the date of the accompanying Mahler 5th by mistake (a recording I inexplicably failed to put on my list). I assume the 1968 Mahler 5th in this Arkadia set is the same as the 1968 performance on Nuova Era but will have to check. (My copy of the Nuova Era Mahler 5th is bronzing, so I can't check until I get it back from a friend who is making a backup copy for me.) Unfortunately this Arkadia Mahler 9th strkes me as easily the least satisfactory live Mahler from Boulez that I have. (I'm not the only one who thinks so: I once had a phone call from William Youngren who was on the verge of reviewing it for Fanfare. He's generally very enthusiastic about Boulez and wondered whether this performance was as unfortunate as it seemed or whether it was just him.)

I have to coax that information (and the performance date) out of the friend who burned me a copy.

This is not in Mouret's discography, so I assume it's a private recording.
