The Louisville Orchestra as of June 10 is filing for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11. They are not in danger of immediate demise but the New Dimensions series of three annual contemporary music concerts conducted by Robert Franz will not be on the docket for the coming season. This is yet another example of an orchestra in dire financial straits.

I wonder how many new concert halls will soon be built in the vicinity?

This is very sad. Think of all the time and effort spent in the service of the contemporary composer on record and in the concert hall that's but a memory. Rampant philistinism strikes again. Les

Of course, coming from an essentially Communist regime, I would say this: but it would be very nice if you treated your orchestras as national/state heritage and funded them as such.

Kind regards, Alan M. Watkins

Every city is too busy building yet another damned concert hall to want to do anything for its orchestra.

What cities are building concert halls? There may be a long list of them, but since city and state revenues are collapsing very rapidly one would think they might be put on hold if possible.
