I ordered the Beethoven Quartet series by the Lindsays. The price seemed very good. When it arrived I found the shipping charge to be $14.06, which seemed very high for a set of ten cds in paper sleeves.
Checking on their web site I found that the cost should have been about $8.50, still too high, but not as bad.
When I contacted them, they first wrote back with the chart of their shipping rates. When I responded that didn't explain the $14 charge, they responded that it is not a ten disc set, but rather is four sets. How they arrived at that I cannot imagine. When I gain remonstrated, they just reasserted that it is four sets.
I realize that a six dollar difference is not going to make a significant difference in my life. However, I am disappointed that MHS feels it necessary to cheat. I recall them as being a very good group in the

If you happened to pay by credit card, you can have the bank conditionally reverse the charge and do an investigation, which in effect will put the burden on MHS to justify the charge. Perhaps not worth the time, but quite satisfying if you prevail.

Don't you get a confirmation page when you place your order that gives you the total charge including the shipping? You typically see that amount before you have a final opportunity to complete the transaction or cancel.

NO, there wasn't an emailed invoice, hence the big surprise.

Pardon, but I didn't mean an e-mailed invoice. What I mean is that when you place your order on their web site, or any seller's web site, there's usually a page that comes up at the end that tells you exactly what your order will cost you, shipping and all. You're then asked to review it and click 'Yes' to place the order or something else to cancel it. If you click 'Yes' or 'Order' or whatever then you get another page that says 'Your order has been sent.' That will be a confirmation page. It comes up immediately when you place your order and it repeats the total charges, the same as the earlier page. That's how you're supposed to know in advance what the cost is going to be.

Just to check for myself, I went through the online order for this item far enough to see the shipping charges (but not far enough to complete the order). The shipping charges were indeed listed as $14.06. I do agree, though, that based on the listing of 10CD's , the shipping should be much less. There is no mention of '4 sets' or any such thing, in the description
Jerry, why don't you write a letter (not email, assuming that's how you contacted them before) to customer service and reiterate the problem? Such correspondence usually gets handled by different people than those who deal with email, and you may find someone more willing to see your side of it.

I could call them and speak to a customer service rep. If you threaten to quit the club over this, they might find it in their hearts to subtract some or all of the shipping charges from your total.
Frankly, I'm surprised MHS would pull this kind of stunt. I have always held them in higher esteem than your run-of-the-mill CD club. Maybe I was wrong.
