I used to develop pains from typing too much at work, but it has decreased dramatically since I started playing piano. I attribute it to being much more aware to hand position than before.
Do you get the pain in both hands, or mostly in the hand with which you use the mouse? I know this is not something everybody can do, but one solution I found was to switch the mouse to the other hand.

They also now sell a mouse pad with a gel-filled wristpad which has made it much easier on my hand.

I've been there. I replaced my old IBM keyboard (very 'hard' keys) with a Microsoft keyboard and bought a new Logitech 'Mousman wheel' (the kind that is fitted for the right hand only) with very 'light clicks'. Expensive but worth the money. And I always use a wrist pad. Never let the hand rest on the desk while using the mouse or typing; keep the wrist high on the pad (or better : float the hands in the air as you were playing - the elbow resting on the arm chair for support). The hand should never be bent upwards from the wrist. Use a chair with arm rests (my chair is very high so the arms are in the air when typing). Keep the keyboard flat.
My pains were caused (in my opinion) from playing too much and too hard with the silencer.
Get well soon !
