Somebody warned about bronzing Nuova Era discs in another thread. Well, I just discovered one in my collection: a live Boulez Mahler 5. Is bronzing an incremental process or does it happen fairly suddenly? I swear this CD was fine when I played it a couple of months ago. (It still plays, but . . . )

Might have been me. Use Exact Audio Copy to make a backup right away. Since the disk is still playable, it probably won't find errors it can't fix. If it does, you can usually fix them easily in CoolEdit. (EAC offers a glitch-fix algorithm, but I haven't tried it.)
Let us know what happens.

The process of bronzing is slow but the effect on the playability of the CD is sudden. PDO asks not to send them discs until they start to act up. Right. A while back I sent every disc I had made by them during the bad period ('89-'91 I believe) that had even the slightest signs of bronzing and got replacements. Better safe than sorry.

It's incremental, and if you catch it early enough, you can copy it to a CD-R without loss of quality.
