Nice disc from ProPiano (PPR224536) Esther Budiardjo plays Brahms /Hungarian Dances, Book I transcribed for solo piano by Moszkowski and Etudes op. 91 by Moszkowski. I have yet to hear a piece by MM that I've never liked. Utterly charming music. How is his orchestral music?

For those who want to know Miss Budiardjo plays a Kawai EX2186001.

Thanks for the notice. I'll be ordering this. I wasn't aware of this set of Etudes by Moszkowski. I only knew of the 'Etudes de Virtuosite' op 72 and a set of Etudes for Left hand.

P.S. - The Kawai Concert Grand that she plays on other Pro Piano releases sounds just fine - very close to a Steinway D sound.

There's also a set of Etudes in Double Notes which I think has never been recorded. Too bad.

Ilana Vered did a terrific set of Op 72 plus a few encore pieces for Connoisseur Society; much superior to any of the sets that have appeared on CD. I hope to remaster this LP sometime in the not too distant future.

I saw two sealed copies of the Budiardjo CD in a local used CD shop; passed 'em over. Now I wish I had picked one up.

It's been some years since I've played that LP, but I'll certainly be listening for the symptom you describe.

Agreed, the PC is a blast. It's also a blast to play, like most Moszkowski.

I transferred the Ilana Vered LP onto CD. Yes, I do remember some pitch fluctuations. She did possess just the right finger technique for these pieces, and I remember that she also recorded the 24 Chopin Etudes.

For the other solo piano music, there was a project started by Seta Tanyel on Collins, before they folded. She recorded about 3 CDs worth - Moszkowski seems to belong to the ladies these days.

Speaking of pitch fluctuations - has anyone noticed some very blatent pitch changes in DeLarrocha's 1964 Iberia recording. They are so imprinted in my mind that I am rather startled when other recordings have steady pitch in those places!

John,

Yes, Collins did go under, and the 3 Moszkowski discs recorded by Seta Tanyel seemed as elusive as ever for the past few years
