On PBS 'Great Performances' this evening I saw an excellent rendition of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 by Pierre Boulez and the Berlin Philharmonic with the Portuguese virtuoso, Maria Pires, at piano. Ms. Pires is well-known in Europe for recordings of the complete Mozart piano concertos. It was interesting to see in this concert that she played a rich, sparkling Yamaha.

Perhaps the artist knows a Yamaha (this is my bias) is a more musical instrument for Mozart.

Perhaps she knows that to accurately play mozart, and instrument with a somewhat shorter decay would suffice better than one with a longer decay. (??)

Perhaps she prefers the better action of the Yamaha compared to a Steinway or something else. (bias again...sorry)

Just a thought,
