Mozart's piano concerti are certainly enshrined forever in the canon of masterful music. However, can anyone offer reccomendations on recordings of these concerti? Uchida's (nearly) complete set of the Mozart concerti is certainly a tempting way to spend $120!

I say you can't beat Murray Perahia. But don't expect anything very muscular!.

That Uchida-Tate set appears on BMG clearance sales from time to time. I think I picked it up there for around $30. I don't find it as exciting as her solo Mozart. Maybe because the orchestral contribution is only so so.

If you're looking for a complete set, I would avoid Uchida, whose playing is often just too precious for my taste. Perahia's set does not strike me as a worthwhile investment, either

I recommend Ashkenazy/Philharmonia with Ashkenazy conducting, he recorded them from the late 1970s to early 1980s, and each performance is virtually

No, they aren't (or should that be: no, it isn't?).

Yay! Perahia is great for this music. Others to seek out: Maurizio Pollini (I don't know if he did a complete set, but the D-G 23 is outstanding) and Alfred Brendel with ASMF. Uchida takes an ice water 'touch me not' approach to the music. It is strikingly beautiful, but I think Perahia is still my favorite.

Last time I looked, the Perahia set could be had quite cheaply at Berkshire Record Outlet.

Should've thought of that. Sorry for taking up space. Thanks, though!
