Music For Silent Films

This is a little of topic, but since I found the concept so charming and different, I thought I would share it with you.
Chris Becker has a project going Along with some Silent film makers (I wasn’t really aware that there was any of that happening) Amongst others Noe Kidder and Arianne Anthony.

Chris and other musicians improvise live music at screenings of these films.
I was immediately turned on by the potential of this, and as I watched this film
By Noe Kidder and Arianne Anthony I was bought the the end of my chair out of curiosity as to what music would work here.

Out of habit, I guess, my first association of music with silent films was piano music - but in Chris’s work, there isn’t a piano to be found - rather, a laptop, trumpet and electric guitar.

If you would like to read more about it, you can visit Chris’s blog and if you are near Columbus Ohio, there are several dates for performances there.

If anyone has been to one of these performances - I would love to here what it was like.

Hey, Amanda. Thanks for the mention, I really appreciate it.
For Noe’s film, what we seem to fall into is an almost old fashioned sort of approach to creating live musical accompaniment - kind of like what pianists did with silent movies back in the 1920s. And her film (which was made in 2006 I think) really has that old silent film look - I was blown away when I first saw it.
But there are so many ways you can go when accompanying an image with music. That’s one of the fun things we explore with this project.
    Take care!

It does have that olden days look with a modern twist to it. Thanks for commenting.
