We intend to purchase a digital piano for our daughters. The owner of a local music shop has offered to sell me a floor model Yamaha CLP-840 for $1695.00. Is this a good price?

thanks in advance,

Tom Creech

I've just purchased a CLP950 for $1800. In general, the prices in Europe and Canada are much cheaper. In this case, the price is close enough that I bought it locally (cleveland). I'd pay the extra $100 for a new 950 than a demo 840. The amazing thing is, the store wants over $2400 for the same model in mahogany or cherry color; I took rosewood and pocket the change. (Actually, if the rosewood weren't so cheap, I'd drive to Canada and buy one there).

Hmmm...

I just purchased a new Clavinova CLP-950 (brand new model) for $2500 Canadian dollars (US$1666) plus applicable taxes. I think I would rather have the new model rather than the old one...especially if they both were approx the same price. I also know that the new models have some improvements over the old ones (larger sample memory, etc).

The store I purchased my 950 from had a mahogany one in the showroom. Personally, I think it looked kinda cheap. The wood grain looked artificial and kinda reminded me of all those imitation wood desks that everyone bought in the late 70s. The cherry looks kinda nice but they didn't have any in stock. I ended up purchasing the rosewood one. My friend purchased a CVP-950 at the same time and this model comes in a black laquer case. I would have paid extra to get a 950 in black lacquer because it looks really sharp. That being said, when I was at his house last week I couldn't help but notice the millions of greasy fingerprints all over the thing from the kids....hehehehehe.

With respect to my friend's purchase, I meant the CVP-109.

We recently bought the CLP950 from a store in Canada for $1700. We had to pay shipping and the duty taxes (we are in North Dakota) but all together, it was about $2000. We looked around here locally and could only find the old CLP840 and 860 models and they were priced at about $1800 and $2000, and we would still have to pay taxes. So I think we got a better deal buying from Canada. Good luck!! (By the way, we love our CLP590).
