Someone mentioned that there was a Lenny B Recording of Copland's Outdoor Overture on The Bernstein Live NY Phil Box set. So courtesy of the buyer for the Hicksville NY Public Library we all can enjoy it.
It is from a Young Peoples Concert of Nov 12, 1960. This Library also has many of the YPC videos but I don't think this is one of them. Does anyone know if the Copland Birthday Concert is on Video.
The very long Trumpet solo is by William Vachiano Principal NY Phil 1942-1973 when he was replaced by some guy named Schwarz who did not stay too long. Previously he was the third trumpet player with Harry Glantz and Nathan Prager completing the section. That is my vote for the greatest orchestral section ever(apologies to Bud Herseth and friends). Just listen to Toscanini's 1936 Dawn and Rhine Journey. The 'Vach' is still playing every Wednesday night in the Queensborough Band. I have a standing invitation to join this band. I just don't know if I can play well in the presence of a 'Legend'
