I was sorry to have to awaken and discover that I had been dreaming. In my dream, I was playing 'Ain't Misbehavin'' so fluidly and beautifully, and I was talking with people while my hands were doing their thing on the keys... *wistful sigh...*

<G> Those dreams are my favorites, though! A few weeks ago, I was playing a jazzed up version of 'Danny's Blues,' from 'The Legend Of 1900.'

With practice, perhaps the bridge between dreams and waking reality grows ever shorter... I may not ever get there, but as someone else said earlier, while I am alive, there is yet time.

Cheers,

I must admit posts like this make me feel good! I CAN play 'Ain't Misbehavin' fluidly and beautifully, and it is certainly not unusual for some punter to assume I can carry on a conversation while doing it. The truth is that I can't concentrate on both things at once so either the music or the conversation suffers. Normally the latter. <G>

Jeez..... Man, I would give anything, do anything, put in hours and hours of practice, just to be able to play pieces that are on that level. I have downloaded the MIDI and looked at the sheet music, and to me, it's terrifying. <G> Like you, when I'm doing something and someone comes up and starts a conversation, I'm usually not the best company or the most brilliant conversationalist in the world. <G>

Cheers, -Frank P.S. Any practice hints on 'Ain't Misbehavin'' would be great...

Reminds me of the bishop who dreamed he was preaching in St Paul's Cathedral, and when he woke up, he was!

I once had a dream that I was playing trumpet for a major jazz band, really hot and I was smokin!!

The only problem was.....well I hadn't picked up a trumpet in 15 years and had no aspirations of doing so. Any dream interpreters out there? Richard Galassini Cunningham Piano Co Phila,. Pa. 1 (800) 394-1117 URL:http://voce88.tripod.com/richspianopage

Rich, if you used to be a trumpet player as well, then you REALLY need to see, 'The Legend Of 1900.' There is some trumpet playing in that movie that will just blow your socks off... Phew! When the trumpeter makes his little solo as they are boarding the ship, I sat there with my jaw hanging open. Amazing...

I've had similar dreams with guitar: In a dream, I was teaching a friend how to play guitar, but she broke a few strings. I took the guitar from her and began to play the strings solo to 'Dust In The Wind,' filling it with all sorts of tremolo, frills, and little classical riffs... Cool stuff...

I can actually carry on a rather decent, if simple, conversation while playing. It has taken me years to be able to do that. People fall into three groups on this subject. There are the people who are absolutely amazed that I can talk to them at all while playing the piano. They are (in my experience) about 60 percent. There are about half as many folks (~30%) that realize that conversation is possible, but also realize that they don't have my full attention. The rest of the folks (~10%) irritate me, because they act as if there is something wrong with me because I can't carry on a complicated conversation and play complicated music at once.

I work at a Jewish Community Center fixing computers. Today, while we were having a Bazzar going on, my Klezmer band came in to play. I'm doing solo warmup while the rest of the musicians are setting up, and one of my coworkers comes up to me, mid-song, and shows me a filename, and asks me 'is this a video driver, and what can I do if I don't have it anymore?' This is a great question to consider giving a cogent answer to while playing 160 bpm Klezmer <garf>.

I once dreamt that I replaced Rick Wakeman at a Yes concert. I thought: 'Wow, I must be dreaming, so I just do something and it will sound marvelous. ' It didn't

Seems flying in dreams is easier, unless I get caught in the eletricity cables. Hans

Frank, I have dreams about playing all the time and the real frustrating thing is that some times I am dreaming about a completely new song that I have never heard before. When I wake up I may have some of it down but unfortunately I have to wait until the next dream.

I hear that is how the riff for 'Satisfaction' by the Rolling Stones came about. The guitarist dreamed about it, woke up and played it and th rest is history....

I am just now learning to hear a song and pick out what key it is in. I am not always spot on, but I am working on it. I would never claim to have perfect pitch....
