Hello, everyone. I've noticed on some grand pianos that a rectangular mirror is sometimes installed that runs the full (keyboard) width of the piano and reflects the keys and pianist's hands. Other than for aesthetics does the mirror provide any practical function for the performer? Thanks for your time and response. Sincerely,

On many black high-gloss pianos, it may look like there's a mirror on the fallboard, especially when being recorded under bright lights with a video camera. You'll get a near perfect image, and I've seem many a vidographer film this reflection for 'artistic effect' when recording a pianist.

Are you sure this isn't what you've been seeing? I don't think I've ever come across an actual mirror here, except on one Baldwin piano that resides in the Liberace museum!
