I am thinking of buying a used Steinway that was produced in 1942 in the Hamburg factory.

What about the quality of these 'war' pianos? Is the quality as good as that of other times? Or did they have a lower quality because of, e.g., missing materials that were not available in that time?

Given the nature of Nazi Germany's war time economy I find it difficult even to believe that Steinways were made in Hamburg in 1942. If so, was this an American Co. under the supervision of a German trustee sort of like the deal that IBM had in Germany at that time???
