How good is Polyanskii's performance of Shostakovich's Symphony #10 on Chandos?

I don't know, but if I buy that CD, it will be for the 'Big Lightning' music. Come clean, is that your secret motivation as well? ;

Don't know, but ClassicsToday has been continually thrashing all Russian PO/Polyanskii performances, each and every one where there's at least one competition disc, so I wouldn't be too hopeful.
Test-listened to their recent Taneyev disc (in comparison to Järvi's 4th , also on Chandos). Completely and utterly dreadful.

His Glazunov symphonies have lacked any real vigour - and by heck that music needs vigour to succeed.
However I thought his Taneyev symphonies on Chandos very good indeed. I see that another lister took a completely different view on things - mind you I haven't heard the Jaervi version with which he compared the Polyanskii Taneyev.
When I see the name I always remember my reaction to the Glazunov symphonies - similarly blighted though not as comprehensively on Naxos - but I keep the verdict an open one for now. His taneyev seemed genuinely engaged - just the right touch of Russian hysteria about it!
