I just spotted a re-release on Accord of the invaluable Messiaen/Loriod Visions de l'amen and Canteyodjaya disc formerly released on an Ades CD and originally on a Vega LP. (Ades and Accord both ended up owned by Universal.) This means the channel is open for the possibility of other Vega/Ades recordings appearing on Accord.

I wonder who is making such choices at Accord/Universal. Whoever it is obviously has a clue, as there have also been rereleases of important oop Accord discs of French contemporary repertoire.

That explains the disappearance from print of all those early 60's recordings with Boulez and the ensemble of the Domaine musical, including:

Les noces (the one that circulated on a Nonesuch LP) Pierrot lunaire (the one that circulated on an Everest LP) Le marteau sans maître (the one that circulated on a Turnabout LP)

All of these were readily available for many years on LP and all were available on CD before Adès was sold. Thank you, Universal.

I don't think Dutilleux has withdrawn the work, since I recall performances at the Paris Opera about five/six years ago. What he won't allow is a recording of the complete ballet, as he considers it too closely linked to the stage pictures and the choregography.

He did not allow Le Loup, the suite or the complete score, to be included in a set of his complete orchestral works and someone else on this group indicated that he had indeed withdrawn the work. And there definitely was once a recording of the complete ballet on the Vega label, as Royal S. Brown indicated in a survey of 20th century French orchestral music some years ago in High Fidelity.

But for those intensely curious, the 'fragments symphoniques' conducted by Pretre, made its way to CD about ten years ago. EMI, in the series L'Esprit Francaise iirc.

I have that recording, which used to be an Angel LP. The Vega disk containing the complete ballet goes back to the 1950s and has long been out of print.
