I am considering buying a new Charles R. Walter studio upright. What is reasonable to expect on pricing?

I too am mildly interested in this piano. Though I dont know of any absolute price I do know the 'institution or school enclosure' provides the same instrument as the 'styled furnature' varient at a significant savings. The plain institutional model wouls be my choice. By the way Larry Fines piano book describes these pianos as consoles (not true studio) with full size actions. They do appear to be quality verticals in any event. Let me know if you get any difinitive prices for the C. Walter studio. Im interested in replacing my 20 year old Yamaha M1 which serves well but sounds a bit harsh these days? Good luck, Roy

Well, oddly enough the 43 inch lists for $7375 and the 45 inch lists for $6825. IN both cases, the cheapest models; they vary a few hundred based on furniture style. I would expect to pay about 25% less than this as a best price and it might be hard to get this particular model that cheaply since they are rather in demand. I am really rather interested in the quote from Larry Fine, though. What exactly would be a 'consoles (not true studio) with full size actions.' That sounds like a non-sequitur to me. The last I knew, the difference between a console and a studio was that a studio had a full size action. Is that something like a red car painted blue??

You are correct, the main difference between a console and a studio is the full sized action. Not how tall the case is. The Walter 43' 'console' has a full sized studio action, longer keys than most any vertical made, longer strings than a 52' U3, and is, as a result of this, a studio. It just happens to all fit inside a 43' tall case.
