letters to be typed in

Well, that only means that Tower will lose the business.

Are these not the same items recently reissued on an EMI Double fforte?

Thanks for posting these. AFAIK, there's only one recording of the 5th with Rosbaud, as per the Bruckner discography

Rosbaud Southwest German Radio Sym 1960 (not 1953) Arkadia CD746.1 ................ 75:53 - 20:11 16:51 14:49 24:02

It's probably Rosbaud's weakest Bruckner recording.

I wonder what the source for the above is. Comments on sound quality appreciated.

According to Geffen, the Brahms has also been released on Multisonic. How is this? It sounds pretty promising...

In the Qualiton bulletin it is listed as the being the first issue of this recording in any format. It's likely been unavailable because there is a significant glitch in the broadcast recording near the end of the first movement that could not be corrected. My apologies for neglecting to mark this as a premiere.

No, it's just another chapter of their version of Perils of Pauline. My local record store went to the brink and then stepped back. To restock they have had to resort to one-stop suppliers (at higher cost) and are only slowly getting permission from major distributors to place orders again. In days gone by Qualiton was notorious for demanding cash or shopping COD for small orders, and it looks like Tower might be on probation at the moment. These things change, and hopefully, improve.

My reason for not shopping at Tower is that they circulated a holiday sale leaflet and I could find NOTHING that referred to their classical stock.

Ignore me, I ignore you.

says...

Indeed; probably what I would choose if I could keep only one recording of the piece. I've no idea how the Urania transfer compares to the Multisonic (which is what I have).

MDT and Amazon.co.uk list the upcoming Archipel release as being by SWF Stuttgart, not SWF Baden-Baden. Also, a Rosbaud discography

Thanks to you both! Sounds like a good companion to the Kondrashin/Oistrakh Brahms VC.

I listened to the Archipel disc today and find the performance to be just as tired and uninspired as the one on the Arkadia disc
