'The lid has a double slope like a house top, so that no drinks can be stood upon it. For a similar reason, the lid of the piano has no level part. The woodwork above the pedals is reinforced with brass plates to receive kicks. The wood itself is solid oak, with rounded corners for the mutual protection of heads, shins and the piano frame. Keyboard ends are made of copper to counteract smouldering butts. The ivory surfaces are bevelled so that they cannot be picked off. The instruments are also made to withstand tropical weather and damage in transit.'
Where and when were these instruments built, and for what purpose? Who were the makers? Who performed on them? What recordings were made using them?

Yes of course. Now which famous pianists gave recitals on that nuclear sub instrument?
