can anyone recommend starter digital pianos (price range below $2000)? i would prefer the following minimum requirements: - 3 pedals - realistic piano sound - realistic key feel (and look)

thanks.

my reccomendation would be to go to a couple of local music stores and have a play on the pianos in your price range, if any of them will do, report back and get people's responses on things like tech support and reliability. Unfortunately neither I nor anyone else really know what you want in that piano except you, the best thing to do is go out and look at what's available.

One thing to take note of is whether the piano has a multi-stage sustain pedal. I am still quite happy with the digital I bought about 8 years ago, except that the pedal has only two settings, and thus doesn't allow for half pedaling. At the time this feature seemed unimportant, but as my playing improved I started to miss it. I had sort of assumed that by now all digital pianos

A few years ago this discussion came up on here. I didn't know what it was all about then, and I still don't. I've played piano for approaching 50 years now, and did quite a few years in there of tuning and repairing them. This newsgroup is the only place I have ever heard of the concept of 'half pedaling' a damper. The damper is either in contact with the strings or it is not. If it is partly in contact, I can adjust it to get rid of that annoying ringing.
