From Gramophone, quoted by ArchivMusic:

<< How characteristic of Uchida to make you want to celebrate the music, first of all. She inhabits it completely, and her preferred Steinway for Schubert, and this recording of it - at the Musikverein in Vienna, in the main auditorium - are at one with her endeavour, perfectly judged in what they bring to it, part of the focus... >>

'Inhabits' the music? More like she establishes squatters' rights. I bought the CD, found Uchida's tempi to be ludicrously slow, and dumped the disc straightaway. I like her Mozart sonatas and Debuissy Etudes but don't know that I can trust her in Schubert, at least of late.

Appropriate homage to a hideous mistreater of Schubert.

One of the most perfect examples of meaningless critic-speak I've ever encountered. But it sounds like that piano is one helluva insightful

I've only listened to her playing D958 and D959 and this is one of my favourite Schubert CDs.

I hope the tax laws don't penalize her for inhabiting that many places at once...

Just the standard Gramospeak with slight traces of Penguinisms. Ignore.

dk

PS. Steinway is a ridiculous choice for playing Schubert. His music calls for Bosendoerfers or

Some of the Gramophone reviews quoted by ArchivMusic are less puzzling - and more humorous. The one for the Rite of Spring... Missa Solemnis...

It's clear that there is more of her than the music will hold. Have never seen a Steinway for real, but suspect that when the lid is closed there ain't much spare room. The recording may contain the shadows of her soul...

They're hilarious but still pretty puzzling! The glories of English as a third language...

(I should know. )

Btw, who in Gramophone writes this... this... stuff???!!
